Ingredients
For the sandwiches
- 12 Hawaiian rolls or soft dinner rolls
- 450–500 g sliced ham
- 300–350 g sliced Swiss, mozzarella, or provolone cheese
- 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise or Dijon mustard (optional)
For the buttery topping
- ½ cup (115 g) butter, melted
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
Method
- Heat oven: 180°C / 350°F.
- Prepare the rolls: Slice the entire package of rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected. Place the bottom half in a parchment-lined baking dish.
- Layer: Spread with a little mayo or mustard if desired. Add a generous layer of ham, followed by plenty of cheese. Put the tops of the rolls back on.
- Make the topping: Mix melted butter, Dijon, honey/brown sugar, garlic powder, parsley, and onion powder.
- Pour over: Spoon the buttery mixture evenly over the tops, making sure it gets into the cracks.
- Bake covered: Cover loosely with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
- Brown: Remove the foil and bake another 8–12 minutes, until the tops are golden and the cheese is completely melted.
- Rest & cut: Let sit for 5 minutes, then separate into individual sandwiches.
