A cozy, hearty lasagna loaded with seasoned ground beef, rich tomato sauce, creamy cheese, and plenty of melted mozzarella.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz (680 g) marinara or tomato pasta sauce
- 9–12 lasagna noodles
- 15 oz (425 g) ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- ½ cup grated Parmesan
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Method
- Cook the beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Sauté onion, then add garlic and beef. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Make the sauce: Stir in marinara, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
- Mix the filling: Combine ricotta, egg, Parmesan, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Layer: Spread a little meat sauce in a baking dish. Add noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat the layers.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 10–15 minutes, until bubbling and golden.
- Rest: Let it stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
Tip: For an extra-cheesy top, add a final handful of mozzarella and Parmesan during the last 10 minutes.
