Creamy Custard Puff Pastry Delight

Ingredients:
•⁠ ⁠1 package of puff pastry sheets, thawed
•⁠ ⁠2 cups milk
•⁠ ⁠1 cup sugar
•⁠ ⁠3 tablespoons cornstarch
•⁠ ⁠2 egg yolks
•⁠ ⁠1 teaspoon vanilla extract
•⁠ ⁠1 tablespoon butter
•⁠ ⁠1 cup whipped cream
•⁠ ⁠1 egg (for egg wash)
•⁠ ⁠1 tablespoon powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions:
1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares. Place them on the baking sheet.
3️⃣ In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
4️⃣ In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until smooth. Gradually pour the warm milk into the mixture, whisking constantly.
5️⃣ Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened into a custard. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and butter. Let it cool slightly.
6️⃣ Once cool, fold the whipped cream into the custard for a lighter filling.
7️⃣ Brush the puff pastry squares with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and puffed.
8️⃣ Let the pastries cool slightly, then carefully slice them in half.
9️⃣ Fill the pastries with the creamy custard mixture and sandwich them together.
