  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal oval-shaped patties.

2. Cook the Steaks:

Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.

3. Make the Gravy:

  • Add sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook until softened and browned, about 6–8 minutes.

  • Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, stir, and cook for 1 minute.

  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir constantly until smooth.

  • Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Combine & Serve:

Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top and simmer for another 5 minutes.
