Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional, can use more to taste)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 egg, well beaten
2 tablespoons melted butter
2/3 cup full-fat milk
Instructions:
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, sift together the flour, salt, pepper (if using), and baking powder.
Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the egg with melted butter.
Combine Wet and Dry: Add the egg and butter mixture to the dry ingredients, along with enough milk to make a semi-stiff batter (don’t overmix).
Cook the Dumplings: Drop spoonfuls of batter into the simmering broth. Cover the pot and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through.
