Ingredients
- 12–16 soft dinner rolls or Hawaiian rolls
- 450 g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack
- ½ cup butter, melted
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Optional: 1–2 tbsp sesame seeds or flaky salt
Instructions
- Cook the filling: Brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
- Make the glaze: Whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon, and garlic powder.
- Assemble: Keeping the rolls connected if possible, slice them horizontally. Put the bottom halves in a buttered baking dish.
- Spread the beef mixture over the rolls and cover generously with shredded cheese. Place the tops back on.
- Pour the butter-sugar glaze evenly over the entire surface. Let it soak in for 10–15 minutes.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake another 8–12 minutes, until deeply golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Let stand for 5 minutes, then pull apart and serve warm.
