Instructions
1. Make the Red Velvet Cake:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large sheet pan (like a jelly roll pan) with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
-
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
In another bowl, mix sugar and oil until combined. Add egg, buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar, and red food coloring. Mix well.
-
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir until smooth.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched.
-
Let the cake cool slightly. Place another piece of parchment on top and roll the cake gently into a log (with parchment inside). Cool completely.
2. Make the Cheesecake Filling:
-
Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
-
Fold in the whipped cream until fluffy and smooth.
3. Assemble the Sushi Roll:
-
Unroll the cooled cake and remove parchment.
-
Spread cheesecake filling evenly over the cake.
-
Carefully roll the cake back up tightly without the parchment.
-
Chill the roll for at least 1 hour to set.
4. Slice & Decorate:
-
Slice the roll into 1-inch thick “sushi” pieces.
-
Drizzle with melted white chocolate, chocolate sauce, or sprinkle with crushed Oreos for garnish.
Tips:
-
Use dental floss or a sharp knife for clean slices.
-
You can pipe the filling in swirls for an extra sushi-like appearance.
-
Serve chilled for best texture.
