Ingredients

For the Doughnuts:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • ¼ cup whole milk

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 teaspoon sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add remaining sugar, flour, salt, butter, egg, and vanilla. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead dough 5–6 minutes until smooth and elastic (by hand or mixer).

2. First Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1 ½ hours, or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the Doughnuts

  1. Roll dough to ½-inch thickness on a floured surface.

  2. Cut out rounds using a doughnut cutter (or 3-inch round cutter + small cutter for holes).

  3. Place on parchment-lined trays, cover lightly, and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy.

4. Fry the Doughnuts

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot.

  2. Fry doughnuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.

  3. Remove and drain on a wire rack lined with paper towels.

5. Make the Glaze

  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze, then let set on a rack.
