Loose Meat Tavern Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for flavor)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ cup beef broth or water

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 hamburger buns

  • Pickles and yellow mustard for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion.

  2. Cook, breaking the meat into small crumbles. Do not brown or sear; keep it soft and loose.

  3. Stir in mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and broth.

  4. Simmer uncovered over low heat until the liquid is mostly absorbed but the meat is still moist, about 15-20 minutes.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Spoon the loose meat onto the bottom half of a bun.

  7. Top with pickles and mustard if desired, then place the top bun over the meat.
