Old-Fashioned Custard Pie

Ingredients:

1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
4 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a small bowl, separate one egg white from the egg yolk, keeping both parts. Brush the pie crust with the beaten egg white and pre-bake for 7-8 minutes. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together 3 whole eggs, the reserved egg yolk, the remaining beaten egg white, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, heavy cream, and milk.
4. Pour the egg mixture into the pie crust and sprinkle the top with nutmeg.
5. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
6. Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack, then store it in the fridge.

Notes:

For a richer flavor, you can add a dash of cinnamon or a splash of rum to the custard mixture before baking.
